You don't need previous roller derby experience to get started. Our New Skater Program is designed to teach you everything you need to know, one step at a time, in a supportive and structured environment.

Whether you've been thinking about roller derby for years or just discovered the sport, we'll meet you where you are and help you build the skills and confidence to progress at your own pace.

How It Works

Recruitment Night

Meet league members, learn about Shasta Roller Derby, ask questions, and find out what to expect before getting on skates.

Block A: Learn to Skate

Develop balance, stops, footwork, and safe movement. No contact or previous derby experience is required.

3
Block B: Learn to Derby

Learn flat track rules, gameplay, strategy, and contact skills before advancing to full league practices.

Getting equipped

Gear & Costs

We offer a limited loaner gear program for new skaters while you're getting started.

League dues are offered on a sliding scale of $25 to $45 per month. We'll also help you navigate purchasing equipment and obtaining WFTDA insurance when you're ready.
